How-to Guides
Step-by-step guides to help you get the most out of Gamerlog.
Adding your first game
Building your gaming library is the foundation of your Gamerlog experience. Whether you've just finished an epic adventure or discovered a hidden gem, adding it to your collection takes seconds and creates a permanent record of your gaming journey. Your library becomes a living document of every world you've explored and every story you've lived.
- 1Tap the Search icon in the navigation bar
- 2Type the name of the game you want to add
- 3Click on the game from the search results
- 4Tap the '+' button or 'Add to Library'
- 5Select a status: Playing, Played, Backlog, Wishlist, or Dropped
- 6Optionally select the platform you played it on
Pro tip: You can also add games directly from the Home page's popular games section!
Rating a game
Your ratings tell a story. They reflect your taste, your standards, and what you value in gaming. A consistent rating system helps you remember how you felt about games years later and helps friends with similar taste discover their next favorite. Take a moment to consider what each score means to you—your future self will thank you.
- 1Navigate to a game's page (search or click from your library)
- 2Look for the star rating section below the game info
- 3Slide or tap to set your rating (1-10 scale)
- 4Your rating is saved automatically
- 5The game will appear in your 'Played' library if not already there
Pro tip: Ratings help other users discover great games and contribute to the community score.
Writing a review
Reviews transform ratings into conversations. While a score captures how much you liked something, a review explains why. Great reviews don't just summarize—they share perspective, highlight what worked for you specifically, and help others determine if a game matches their taste. Your unique voice adds to the community's collective wisdom.
- 1Rate a game first (reviews require a rating)
- 2Click the 'Write Review' button on the game page
- 3Share your thoughts about the game
- 4Click 'Post Review' to publish
- 5Your review will appear on the game page and your profile
Pro tip: Good reviews explain what you liked and didn't like, helping others decide if the game is for them.
Creating a list
Lists are your curated galleries. They can be personal (games to play this winter), thematic (best horror games ever made), or recommendations for specific moods. Unlike simple favorites, lists tell a story through their curation. A well-crafted list becomes a resource for the community and a reflection of your expertise.
- 1Tap the '+' button in the center of the navigation bar
- 2Select 'Create new list'
- 3Enter a title (e.g., 'Best Indie Games of 2024')
- 4Add an optional description
- 5Choose whether it's a ranked list or not
- 6Search and add games to your list
- 7Drag games to reorder if ranked
Pro tip: Lists are a great way to share recommendations with the community!
Following other users
Gaming is better together. Following other players transforms Gamerlog from a personal tracker into a social discovery engine. When you follow someone with similar taste, their ratings become personalized recommendations. Follow critics you respect, friends you game with, or strangers whose reviews resonate with you.
- 1Find a user through game reviews, lists, or search
- 2Visit their profile page
- 3Click the 'Follow' button
- 4Their activity will now appear in your Feed
Pro tip: Following gamers with similar taste helps you discover new games!
Using your feed
Your Feed is where the community comes alive. Instead of relying on algorithms or marketing, you see what real players—people you've chosen to follow—are experiencing right now. It's a window into gaming culture as it happens, filtered through the perspectives you trust. Check in regularly to stay connected.
- 1Tap 'Feed' in the navigation or sidebar
- 2See recent activity from users you follow
- 3Like and comment on posts
- 4Discover new games through friends' activity
Pro tip: The Feed updates in real-time, so check back often!
Exploring your stats
Your gaming statistics reveal patterns you never knew existed. How many hours have you dedicated to RPGs versus shooters? Which developers have earned your loyalty? What does your rating distribution say about your critical standards? These insights aren't just interesting—they help you understand yourself as a player and make better choices about what to play next.
- 1Go to your Library page
- 2Scroll down to see your gaming statistics
- 3View your gaming DNA, genre breakdown, and more
- 4Check your Timeline to see games by completion year
- 5Explore Rating Distribution for your scoring patterns
Pro tip: Your stats update automatically as you log more games!
Customizing your profile
Your profile is your gaming identity. It's the first thing other players see and sets the tone for how the community perceives you. A thoughtful bio, carefully chosen favorite games, and a unique avatar make your profile memorable. Think of it as your gaming resume—what do you want fellow players to know about you?
- 1Go to Profile → Edit Profile
- 2Upload a custom avatar (click on your photo)
- 3Add a banner image for your profile header
- 4Write a bio to tell others about yourself
- 5Set your favorite games to feature on your profile
- 6Save your changes
Pro tip: A complete profile helps others connect with you!
